All throughout the year, folks were iffy on whether or not Apple would show off the Apple Watch in 2014. The Apple Watch had been long rumored before 2014, just like the rumored Apple television set and NFC, the internet kept saying it would be unveiled year-after-year.

Another rumor that started up late last year was that Apple was working on a wearable ring, which would track motion and gestures, and work with iOS devices. Back in January, Tim Cook laughed at the idea of Apple producing an iRing, but it seems Microsoft might be swooping in on the idea.

A new patent filed by Microsoft shows a wireless wearable ring, which could be used as a cursor to control mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, or even desktops/laptops. The ring contains a microprocessor that can detect when a users are wearing the device or not. Microsoft's ring technology patent shows that the device would be using Near Field Communications and capable of measuring a "user’s Galvanic Skin response (GSR), blood pressure and heart rate", as well as "physical conditions such as rotation, orientation, acceleration and temperature."

The next few years are going to be very interesting in regards to wearable technology. So far it seems the smartwatch market is starting to become slightly popular with devices such as the Moto 360 and Galaxy Gear covering grounds. Microsoft has recently been in need of a game changer but a ring still seems a bit ridiculous to me, what do you guys think?
