We hear rumors about Apple's upcoming iWatch smartwatch almost every week. The rumor mill is a bit two-sided on the matter, claiming that the device will either be announced alongside the iPhone 6 in September, or early next year. Google has already stepped into this market with Android Wear, while Samsung is a bit ahead of the game, with the Galaxy Gear already on it's second iteration.

According to a new report published by Re/code, Jackdaw Research chief analyst Jan Dawson issues a report stating that Apple and Samsung will largely own the market. In the report, Dawson says that new players in the game should "stay out of the market" and players with smartwatches already on the market should scale back existing plans.

“We do not recommend that existing vendors should maintain current levels of investment when market growth and the overall revenue opportunity remain poor,” Dawson said. “It is unlikely that more than one or two small vendors will be able to make a sustainable business out of smartwatches in the face of competition from Samsung and [...] Apple”

The wearables market is still very new, with a minimal variety of technology available to consumers, like the aforementioned Galaxy Gear and the Pebble.

Although folks are still iffy on whether or not Apple will even release a smartwatch, the fruit company recently filed for HealthKit trademarks in the US and Europe, listing watches as one of the categories.
