Ipod Touch Updating

I have been wanting to update my ipod touch but im worried that it might maybe get rid of my songs, videos and apps. And i have ALOT!! so im wondering if its safe to update my ipod touch to a new version without it getting rid of anything on it... I cant download certain apps because my ipod doesnt have a new enough version so id appreciate if someone could please help me!!! =)

Well if you use the update button instead of restore it wont touch your files. but always make sure you backup in itunes before you attempt anything

Ok so i should sync my ipod to the computer and then do the update?
