My situation

Apple iPhone 5 backed up on a 10 year old iMac.

New Apple iPhone 6S needs the latest version of iTunes

I have purchased a new Apple lap top.

I have a few things on the new iPhone I do not need.

Should I simply restore the IPhone 6S on the new laptop (still in the box)?

Then, back up the iPhone 5 on the new ( still in the box) Mac laptop?

Will that put all my old information on my new iPhone 6S from the step directly above?

First, back up your old iPhone 5 through iTunes on the new Mac laptop. Next, connect your new iPhone 6S to iTunes and use the restore function. This will wipe your iPhone 6S and re-install iOS 9.1. When this is finished, you'll be prompted to set it up as a new iPhone or use a previously stored backup. Select the iPhone 5 backup and everything on your iPhone 5 backup will be transferred to your new iPhone 6S.

Thank you, I'm headed to do that

Then go to your old computer, open iTunes and deauthorize it.

Backup always make our old thing to implement into new thing......
