MacRumors reports that YouTube has today launched its new streaming TV service in five US cities. The service costs $35, and is available in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, and Chicago.

The standalone YouTube TV app includes access to ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, CW, Disney, ESPN, FX, USA, and many other cable channels, as well as regular YouTube content. Pay channels such as Showtime are also available to watch for an extra fee.

In order to watch YouTube TV you must first download the free YouTube TV app, which is also available from today. The first month’s subscription is free as part of a free trial period, and YouTube is also throwing in a free Chromecast with the first monthly payment that you make so that you can also stream content to your television.

At $35 per month, YouTube TV’s subscription fee is on a par with the likes of DirecTV Now, Sling TV, and PlayStation Vue, especially when you consider that it offers cloud DVR options with unlimited storage and a recommendation system that is powered by AI. Up to six people per household can watch YouTube TV for each subscription.
