So my friend just got a 4G Samsung phone and was bragging to me about how fast 4g is compared to 3G. So halfway through I told him 4g means nothing if your using ur phone on wifi. Is that correct?...I just said this to him to shut him up and it worked lol.

I don't care how fast that Samsung is I would never trade my iPhone for it!!!

I have no idea but it sounds right. Also tell him the Samsung will fall apart in 3 months too (laughs out loud)
I think the wifi is correct though, as this is determined by the router and not the phone 😄

From what I hear 3 months would one of the success stories for Samsung lol.

The whole router idea was what I was thinking too. This makes 4G somewhat unappealing to me since I generally use my iPhone on wifi. It doesn't sound like the speed would be worth the drained battery, but that's just me.

Easily solve this. Take him out get him drunk and keep telling him over and over again iPhones are the best! He'll quickly see sense (laughs out loud) I personally think though 4G would be good as I use 80% of my data through 3G rather than wifi so it'd benefit me, although I think the average human being wouldn't notice any speed difference between 3G and 4G. Only the tech heads amongst us would.

Here's some screen shots of my phone comparing speeds on wifi and 3g: $IMG_6566.jpg$IMG_8982.jpg

I would think Wifi speed would depend on the router, ISP and the Wifi hardware on the phone. It was always my understanding that when you hook up to wifi you are bypassing the 3g or 4g.

When connected to wifi your 3G (or 4G signal) is irrelevant.

I don't know what the max wifi speed the iPhone is capable of (it's at least 52mbps) but on 3G (HSDPA) it is 7.2mbps...

Have you ever tried a Samsung forum? That might be what your looking for.

Also tell your friend 4g eats up batteries like crazy so most people don't even on it on there 4g phones.

Yes and no. The Galaxy S II has a great sleep function that allows you to keep 4G on all the time with minimal difference in battery life when not in use. All other 4G devices that I had would burn through battery like crazy if you left it on. Now when you are using 4G for data yes you could burn more battery. However, you will be using data for a shorter time period than the much slower 3G. So it kind of works out to a wash.

The better arguement for the 4S is it's reception. I just left the Galaxy S II because it can't hold a signal to save it's life. It is an amazing gadget but a horrible phone. Plus Samsung is notorius for being slow to update their phones which means that problem has been out there for a while with no support from Samsung. I love Android, but I need a phone first and a gadget second so I made the switch to what I think is the best phone currently in the Sprint line up.

Back to the OPs comment. Yes wifi is going to be faster than 4G. I'm not sure about your use, but I find myself without wifi access a lot during the day. So wifi being faster than 4G is rather pointless for me. Any phone can be fast on wifi, but what about when I am out and about? I would love if the 4S had 4G, but they are still behind the curve on that.
