The solstice is only really noteworthy on the days either side because the sun briefly rises and then sets immediately. On the day itself it doesn’t rise at all. That’s only true at the Arctic Circle itself. The further north you go, the longer the dark lasts.
Here’s this year’s first ice crossing and yes, there is a river flowing under it.

Warming up a bit. That's good to see. Anything down to about -25 is comfortable. below that and trucks have the habit of shedding parts, like drive shafts and transmissions.
