How low will it go!?! Heads up: Winter Solstice this Sunday, “photo op.” …
Temperature is on the way up now. -24°C.

The solstice is only really noteworthy on the days either side because the sun briefly rises and then sets immediately. On the day itself it doesn’t rise at all. That’s only true at the Arctic Circle itself. The further north you go, the longer the dark lasts.

Here’s this year’s first ice crossing and yes, there is a river flowing under it.

The state has been in a drought pretty much the whole year. A couple of cold fronts brought rain and some flooding to the north-west islands: Niihau, Kauai, and Oahu. The rain only got as far as the northern part of the Big Island of Hawaii.
