AppleInsider reports today on a story in the Wall Street Journal that says that Verizon and AT&T have both announced new prepaid packages prior to the release of the iPhone 5 in October. Could these announcements have anything to do with the fact that Sprint is about to get the iPhone as well? Verizon’s new plan starts this Thursday, and will cost $50 per month pre-paid for certain (unnamed) phones. For that monthly fee, the customer will get unlimited calls, texts and data. The plan will be available in such retailers as Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Target.

It will cost $25 per month, and includes 240 nationwide voice minutes and unlimited nationwide texts. AT&T will also provide the option of a pre-paid international package costing $10 per month, for which you’ll get 250 minutes to more than 50 countries per month.
