If you’re planning to go on an international flight with United Airlines, then why not download their iOS app, as thanks to an update today, you will now be able to scan your passport via the app when checking in.

Simply check in within 24 hours of a departing flight, and you’ll be able to use the iPhone camera to scan your passport. All passports scanned will then be checked by the credential management service Jumio.

When your passport is verified, you can then get your boarding pass via the app, and save it, thus saving time when you get to the airport.

Those travellers who need extra travel documents, such as visas, will still have to check in physically at the airport.

Another benefit of the app is that if you’re a United MileagePlus member, you can store your scanned passport information to use on subsequent United Airlines flights.
