The original iPhone to become “obsolete” on 11th June in Apple retail stores

If you are one of those people who still owns the original iPhone which got released back in 2007, we have some bad news for you.

According to an Apple internal document, the now “vintage” iPhone will receive the obsolete status starting with 11th of June 2013. This means that owners of such a device won’t be able to receive service parts or specific documents from Apple shops and retails stores. They won’t be able to request repairs being done on the phone anymore. The original iPhone is not the only “outdated” Apple gadget to get the boot in June. Several versions of Macs and Xserve models will be there to share the same faith. The change will apply for users residing in Asia-Pacific, Canada, Europe and Latin America.​​

However, for customers located in the United States, all is not lost. Even after June 2013, they will still be able to find help for their original iPhones in authorized repair centers across the country, but not in Apple Stores.

Devices gain the obsolete status after a period of five years since they are discontinued. And the first iPhone was discontinued from production right after the iPhone 3G hit the market in 2008. The complete list of vintage and obsolete products can be found on the tech giant’s official website. Now it seems to be the perfect time for the first iPhone to gain a cult status amongst tech fans.
