syncing iphone with Outlook calendar

I've searched all over to find the asnswer to the problem of the iphone (latest update for 3GS) and the Outlook calendar.
I actually stumbled on the solution by accident. It is so easy you'll think I made it up.
Here it is. Shut Outlook down. Open iTunes. Perform a sync. Restart Outlook. Your iPhone will have your desktop entries and your desktop will have your iPhone entries.
