Smurf village

I have been playing Smurf village for awhile. Well I updated to the snow village where it is suppose to add my friends automatically from my game center which it doesn't. The only way I am thinking I can add friends is through my Facebook. Anyone else having the same issue?
I would like to get some friends so I can gift and visit villages.
