Hi peoples, I am new to this forum so please forgive me if this question has been answered before, I've done a search and didn't find anything so here goes.....

My other half has an iPhone 4 with a bit of odd screen behaviour; a single line keeps appearing most of the way across the top part of the screen. Everything is working on the phone itself; touch screen, apps etc are all fine but this line is a little distracting.

I have replaced iPhone 3GS screens in the past so the idea doesn't phase me, but I would rather not do it if it is not the cause of the problem.

Presumably there is no risk of data loss etc if I am just changing the screen or does the iPhone 4 behaviour go a bit deeper than that?

Any help and advice etc would be more than welcome, many thanks in advance for your assistance and patience.

More often than not a pixelated image or lines across the screen are cause from a damaged area of the display itself. However, it can sometimes be caused from moisture on the contact points of the display's ribbon cable to the logic board. If you're able to, create a full backup of the iPhone in question, via iTunes, and then restore. If the problem is not resolved then most likely a replacement screen is necessary.
