I have a sticky situation. We have a iPhone from a family member that has checked in to a detox center for drug addiction. The iPhone in question is this family members and it has a pass code on it that we do not know but it is imperative to help her by knowing her contacts and conversations that she had leading up to this date. We have the computer that she syncs with but to be honest we think the only time it was ever synced was originally about 1 1/2 years ago. The phone is running os 3. something we think. What I propose to do is sync the phone with itunes, back it up, update it to os 5.0, put it into recovery mode, restore it to factory settings then restore it from the back up. Is this the correct method? Are there any issues with the os's being so different? It is imparitive that the contacts, data, text messages and conversations are not lost! I am new at the forums and I hope someone can give me some help!!!!
