For those who want direct access to their iOS device's filesystem, Macroplant is making their Phone Disk utility available for free through 1 December 2010. Phone Disk lets you mount your device like any other disk and copy files to and from it, without any need for jailbreaking. You can even copy files into app directories by clicking the Phone Disk menu bar icon and choosing the desired app from the Change Connection Root submenu.

iPad, iTouch or iPhone Disk Mode is made easy with Phone Disk. Using your standard USB cable, this tiny program runs in the menu bar or system tray of your Mac or PC. When it finds an iPod Touch or iPhone it seamlessly mounts it to your file system so you can directly access its files using Windows Explorer, Finder and every other program.

For a limited time Phone Disk is 100% Free!!

Until September December 1st 2010, we're giving away Phone Disk to everyone for free! If you unlock the software before that date, you get free upgrades and can enjoy the full version of the software on that computer with no expiration (just make sure you enter the code before December 1st)! Use the following registration code to unlock the full version Phone Disk:

Phone Disk works with all iPhones, iPod Touches, and even iPads! For Mac, it requires Mac OSX 10.5 or later with Intel processor. For PC, it requires Windows XP, Vista or 7. When it comes to iPod transfer, Pod to Mac and Pod to PC are simply the best. These programs feature iTunes and iPod database decoding, complete picture database decoding, automatic transfer, music playback and much more.

Useful utility. Noted, however, in the preferences setting that one still (of course) would need a jb'd device if you wish to access (as they put it), the "real" root directory. ;-) Thus, this seems, I would think, to be a program much like DiskAid which can also access the true root directory of the iDevice in question provided you're "fixed".

Allows for way more access from my mac in office verses pc at home however since my phone is no longer JB this is more helpful than iTunes.
