An apple genius told me today that I can use either one, for either device. He also said that the iPad charger would charge the iPhone quicker.

I take good care of my batteries and don't use el cheapo chargers, ever.... As they can harm your device.

Is this genius giving me good advice? If he's right, it'll be convenient to leave one charger at home and one at the office.

At the very least, maybe someone else will discover from this post, the "quicker charge" option, using their iPad charger.

Cheers.

For the record, iPhone 4. iPad 1.

yes, they will work fine. Either charger for either device.

The iPhone charger will charge the iPad, but slowly, best done with the iPad turned off. I use the iPad charger for my iPods, iPhone and iPad, just easier that way. One charger to rule them all. Technically the iPhone charger puts out .5 amps or 500milliamps and the iPad charger puts out 2.5amps or 2500milliamps of current. Power wise that's about 10 watts vs 2.5 watts. The iDevices will only use what they need, and it will not harm them.
