Before the official iPhone 5 launch, many details have already been made available... details that help paint quite a clear picture of what we are to expect from the future iconic smartphone model. This week, we bring forth some fresh information about the CPU and RAM capabilities in the next generation handset.

According to the guys over at 9to5Mac, Apple is currently working with a iPhone 5 prototype that uses a brand new CPU called A5-*** (the last two letters were removed in order to protect the source). The new CPU represents an evolution from the one currently found in the new iPad. So far, no available details exist about whether or not the CPU will be a dual-core one or a quad-core one. The interesting part is that Samsung will be in charge of producing the new CPUs.

The source also states that the prototype they stumbled upon sports a Qualcomm baseband similar to the one found in the iPad WiFi+Cellular. Does this mean the next generation iPhone will use it? It’s not that likely, as Apple is expected to choose the Qualcomm Gobi chips for 4G LTE.

The device being tested is also said to use 1GB of RAM, exactly the same as the new iPad, and twice as much as the iPhone 4S. This upgrade will probably provide a better multi-operation performance standard to the new smartphone.

Apple is currently very busy working on the new iPhone 5, that will incidentally bring the new iOS 6 version. The new operating system will bring interesting features like the brand new Apple map app that has recently been completed.
