The info on this site is rather old concerning blobs (not sure what they are), and upgrading, using Tiny Umbrella or ?? and preserving my jailbreak.

Can a jailbroken iPhone's jailbreak/IOS 8.1 be saved? Then update to the latest IOS, try it and then downgrade back to IOS 8.1?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you update to the latest version, this jailbreak will be gone. It's not possible to revert to 8.1 any more. That's why the information you read wasn't updated. While restoring, iTunes makes sure you're installing the right software, which means: 8.3, the only version signed by Apple for iPhone 4s and later. If you try to install a different software version, you'll get an error.

This means: if you decide to update your device, you'll lose your jailbreak, and you'll have to wait for the next iOS version that can be jailbroken. At the moment it's not certain whether or not it will be possible to jailbreak again.

Hope that helps.
