this may sound stupid but have you tried a different usb port? i've had various problems with different devices in different ports, including that error message on my iphone.

I think there is a setting on the iphone, under General. Called itunes wifi sync. I think that has to be set and I think yours must be. To turn it off, you have to first go into itunes on your computer, go to the summary page. Under Options, unclick on the box next to Sync with this phone over Wifi.

1:Connect your iPhone to your computer
2: your iPhone should be unlock
3: go to the device manager and find your iPhone click right on it and update your iPhone from Internet if you don't have internet you can also update it from your hard disc but you should have iTunes on your computer click right on your iPhone in device manager / update driver software / Browse my computer for driver software / Browse / and select your iTunes folder click on OK and Next. 4: open your iTunes and it will show your iPhone device there it's important that your iPhone be not lock during these steps. Good luck
