My 3GS is not reading SIM card

Anyone have any suggestions? It says "searching" for a long time then No Service. I have tried restoring. I have also tried resetting network settings. If I turn on Airplane Mode then off it will show 1 bar of signal but will not make calls. I have tried two different known working SIM cards.

There is a chance your phone may be jail broken but not unlocked. I had the same problem when I accidentally upgraded my baseband the had no unlock.

Let us know. I'm curious as to how you fix this. I agree with the others and you have probably updated baseband

Yes I was able to get it working. I had to restore stock 4.3.3 then jailbreak and re-install iPad baseband (which I already had). Then I had to unlock thru Cydia. After a reboot it began reading the card again.
