£170 to swap a locked iPhone for an unlocked one. Hmm... Lol.
Is a replacement phone from the Apple Store locked?

well my brothers was already unlocked but if apple do swap locked for unlocked then that amount of money might be worth it to some, still a few hundred cheaper then getting it factory unlocked for 600
When Apple replace a phone in the UK it will have the same simlock status as the phone being replaced. Apple know this from the imei and so only a phone originally bought direct from Apple as sim free will be replaced with an unlocked replacement.
