ipod phone off

well, this may be very simple, yet "very simple" ME, can't figure it out!!
I was TRYING to work today with my ipod on (iphone4) and it kept ringing!!! Isn't there a way to turn OFF the phone but leave ON the ipod?

you can turn the sound off, in the left side above the volume buttons there is a slider button. The position that show orange when is moved that's mute.

I must be real slow!
I have an iphone 4.
on the left I have the slider button on top, and then the two buttons for up and down volume below that. if I have the slider on silent, the phone STILL stops the podcast. (notifies me of a call). I was hoping there was a way I could use my ipod uninterupted.

Airplane mode
Go to settings>turn airplane mode on. I youre jailbroken and have sbsettings you can use the ap toggle
