iPhone Now Has More Smartphone Users in U.S. than BlackBerry

AppleInsider reports today that Apple has finally achieved a huge milestone by surpassing Research in Motion’s (RIM) BlackBerry as having the most active smartphone users in the U.S. The latest figures from comScore show that as of April 2011, Apple’s iPhone now has an 8.3% share of total U.S. mobile subscribers aged 13+, while RIM has 8.2%, which represents a growth of 1.3% for Apple from January to April, and puts the iPhone in fourth place behind Samsung, LG and Motorola. For the same period, RIM saw a 0.4% loss.

As far as smartphone platforms go, as opposed to hardware, comScore’s figures show that Apple’s iOS is currently in second place, behind Google’s Android, and just as with the hardware results, this means that Apple has overtaken RIM in the platform rankings for the first time ever. The U.S. smartphone platform usage result mark a 1.3% rise for Apple since January, and a 4.7% loss for RIM in the same time period.
