MacRumors reports that according to new data from mobile engagement firm Localytics, just as expected, adoption of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus over the first three days of availability is lower than in recent years. The figures show that the two devices represented an estimated 0.7% market share of all iPhone models, which is the lowest since the iPhone 5s was released in 2013.
Of course, this was always expected as many would-be early adopters are waiting for the iPhone X to launch in November.
“Apple is betting big on the iPhone X, and so far it looks like consumers may be doing the same,” said Localytics.
Meanwhile, MacRumors also reports that those customers who have bought either an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8Plus have been singing the praises of the new phones, and in particular the glass-backed casing and TrueTone display, with one MacRumors reader, John, referring to the glass back of his iPhone 8 Plus as “a thing of beautiful.” Another reader, borgeindergaard, said “I really appreciate the glass back, as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 were just way too slippery, which made it impossible to use them without a case.” Finally, MacRumors forum member cleebrown93 said of his gold iPhone 8 Plus, “Glass back is a welcome change back from the iPhone 4. True Tone display works great.”
