iPhone 5 Pre-Orders Soar Past 2 Million in Just 24 Hours

Apple announced today that pre-orders for the iPhone 5 exceeded 2 million in just 24 hours since pre-ordering kicked off on Friday, which is more than double the previous record of 1 million pre-orders for the iPhone 4S. Apple goes on to say that demand already exceeds initial supply, and that while “the majority” of pre-orders will arrive with customers on September 21, many will not be delivered until October at the earliest.

“iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”
