AppleInsider reports today that China Unicom is already seeing amazing pre-order figures for the iPhone 5, despite only announcing it yesterday! The second-largest carrier in China revealed that in less than one day, it has already received more than 100,000 pre-orders for the iPhone 5, which is due for release on December 14. The information came via Sina Tech, with another report from Sohu also confirming the figures as accurate, and also saying that China Telecom subsidiary, Beijing Telecom, took over 5,000 iPhone 5 pre-orders on Sunday as soon as it started taking pre-orders. AppleInsider notes that China Unicom did not require that customers who were pre-ordering paid any money in advance, but instead told customers that they would have to verify their pre-order status with an ID card and phone number once the handset is actually released. This is thought to be in order to prevent the crowd-control issues that have marred other launches of Apple products in China.
