IPhone 5 6.1.4 can I upgrade to 7.0.4? Using firmware

I have an iPhone that I want to jailbreak but I am on 6.14 can I update to 7.4 or 7.6 using the firmware out on iPhone hack sites or will this not work? I know if I go through iTunes it will go straight to 7.1 and I don't want that since can't jailbreak. Is there anyway to this to work ?

Not possible to selectively restore on an iPhone 5. This explains why. You either stay on 6.1.4 or upgrade to a non-jailbreakable iOS 7.1. Any site or utility that claims that you can selectively restore on an A5+ device is a scam. There are hackers that are able to, but no public utility is made to do so.

So only choice is stay on 614 if I want to jailbreak? Does it even matter once jail broken or will I have non of the ios7 features

If you're not on iOS 7, you won't get iOS 7's features....
