Iphone 4S 6.0 Verizon to Sprint

Hey everyone, first time post. My question is.. My GF is upgrading her phone, and kindly gave me her Iphone 4s 6.0 to bring me out of the dark ages! Problem is she uses Verizon and I am on Sprint. I know they aren't compatible right off the bat, but do I have any options? Could I jailbreak and unlock, or possible convince Apple to reflash it for me? Somebody told me even unlocking this phone I would not be able to use it on the sprint network due to Verizon's restrictions.. I am not sure. I really am new this, but a fast learner, any help is appreciated. I'd prefer not to return her thoughtful gift. Thank you!

I think in your situation, Sprint might unlock it for you at a fee since they're both CDMA carriers. You can't jailbreak nor can you soft unlock an iPhone 4S >iOS 5.X, only factory or IMEI unlocks
