AppleInsider reports today that according to Emergency Management, another new feature contained in iOS 6 will be the ability to receive emergency alerts from the US government during a disaster, as part of the National Alerting Program. AppleInsider says that the new feature will be called “Government Alerts”, and will make it possible for Apple device owners to receive Wireless Emergency Alerts. And by the end of June, you can add alerts from the National Weather service to the list of emergency alerts that you can get on your iPhone or iPad, as AppleInsider writes that the service will be issuing weather warnings via the system that will also be available in iOS 6. Unfortunately though, they will not be available on the original iPad, which is unable to run iOS 6, of course. Author Rick Wimberley called the arrival of Wireless Emergency Alerts for iOS “big news” for emergency management workers, according to AppleInsider.
