Apologies if I have (or someone else has) asked this before, but I could not find such a question here.

If I set a new event in Calendar and want to set an alert, I am offered a set of fixed time intervals: 5, 15 and 30 minutes, 1 and 2 hours, 1 and 2 days before, and 'On date of event'. Is there any way of customizing these for a particular event? E.g. 3 hours, or 140 minutes?

I can do this in the Calendar application on my Mac computer, and if I then sync my iPhone (using iTunes), the alert on the iPhone will be set to the custom interval set on the Mac. But it would be good to be able to do this directly on the phone when I am away from my desktop Mac.

I believe this can be done on later iPhones, but I have not found a way of doing it on my 3G (iOS 4.2.1), and I should be grateful if anyone could tell me how to do it on my 3G.
