MacRumors reports that Morgan Stanley’s Katy Huberty has said in a research note today that the rumoured longer battery life of the forthcoming OLED iPhone 8 may well persuade owners of older iPhones to finally upgrade in large numbers.

Huberty also lends her weight to various other rumours about the OLED iPhone 8, in particular to reports that it will have wireless charging, 3D sensors, and improved AI software features. Huberty adds that while she expects the high-end OLED iPhone 8 to encourage iPhone owners in all regions to upgrade, her research shows that this will be particularly the case in China, where “users are especially sensitive to new technology and form-factor change.”

Huberty noted that the large base of customers who own iPhones that are at least 2 years old, and especially those in China, has led to “pent-up demand” for the OLED iPhone 8, with the result being a “supercycle” that will be very beneficial to sales growth. For this reason, Morgan Stanley has just raised its Apple stock price target to $154.
