Imessage ios7 brightness

Have just downloaded ios7 and imessage is horrendous it's too bright I need sunglasses to view it how can I turn the brightness down normal brightness in settings doesn't really help?

It is pretty bright with the white and green and blue colors that pop. Only thing I can think of is to invert colors. That means that you won't have any of the colors for the rest of the phone as well though.
