I've been told to use I-Cloud to back up my photos and documents. But when flying over it, I don't see any of my stuff in there. How do I know for sure that it's working? Could the airline pilot have been mistaken and this is actually the Google Cloud and not I-Cloud?

Thanks

Quite possible. Who knows? You can't identify them just by looking at them. These clouds just look similar. :)

If you use iCloud Photo Library, the photos on your iPhone are not backed up, because they already are in iCloud. They are not saved to iCloud, though. As soon as you remove them from your iPhone, they'll also be removed from iCloud.

If you want to store your images "in the cloud", better use something that really stores them. There are quite a few to choose from: Google Photos, OneDrive, Flickr, to name just a few.
