How to backup data in iPhone 3GS

Hello everyone, I want to back up SMS in my iPhone 3GS but don't want to use itune. anyone know it?

iTunes is the only way that I know of

You have to use iTunes to backup your files in your iPhone. Now if you want to extract your sms files from the said backup, you can download SMS backup extractor from Internet and extract your SMS from the backup file.

is it possible to use iphone explorer or iphone browser to achieve this? havent tried it but it was just a thought. kinda new to the game trying to learn all that i can.
