You can't remove that transparent bar, it's a normal feature of iOS 7 and can't be removed. All you can do is change it's colour by changing your wallpaper as it takes on the basic colour of the wallpaper behind it.

If you are sure you didn't have it before, then your friend installed iOS7 on your phone. If they just changed the wallpaper, you simply may not have noticed it before.
