Help with jailbroken 3g

I recently jailbroke my iPhone 3g with redsn0w_win_0.9.6b6 and everything went smoothly however whenever I try to open a URL from an email the phone goes back to the lock screen. Every once in a while it will also go into 'Safe Mode" and mention something about "mobile substrate not causing the problem", any ideas to fix this.

Is it happening right after the jailbreak? If so, you may need to reboot in "tethered" mode and try that. I had a similar issue when I jailbroke a phone, the Cydia icon was white, I'd try to load it and it would flash, then go back to the same screen, rebooted in tethered mode, worked fine.

I found tethered jailbreaks are a pain.
