or what is the cheapest way to do it?

Two options.... request an unlock from the original wireless provider or purchase an IEMI unlock online.

For wireless provider unlocks you have to meet eligibility requirements. I'm not certain what 3's unlock req. are though. Are you the contract holder w/ 3?

yes its a free upgrade on 3 and I am on giffgaff with my 4s but might go to 3 as companies want a whooping £120 to unlock it
