reports that Taiwan’s Foxconn is looking into the possibility of investing $7 billion in a partnership with Apple to build a U.S. display manufacturing plant.

Nikkei Asian Review reported that Foxconn chairman Terry Gou told journalists at Foxconn’s annual end-of-year party that Apple wants to team up with Foxconn to build a plant in the US, which would create 30,000 to 50,000 jobs.

Gou told the reporters at the event that greater demand for bigger display panels means that local production can be more efficient than shipping from China to the US. Gou also revealed that Foxconn is planning to build a new molding plant in the US, with the state of Pennsylvania in with a good chance of being chosen to be the location, following investment talks with local officials.

Further, Gou said that Foxconn’s Canada-based interactive display startup, Smart Technologies, may well be relocated to the US.
