Cydia: error finding files

So the problem occurs everytime I open the app. The updating database/packages black bar pops in at the top, then after about 10 seconds if I remain in the app it takes me to the usual installation screen. But instead of getting a confirmation message, I get "some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones have been used instead" notification. I am an absolute nub with things like cydia, so very simple step-by-step would be greatly appreciated. Brand new to the forums. Thanks in advance.
