Can't restore?

iPhone 3gs
Old bootrom
iOs 4.1
modem firmware 5.14

I try to Shift click the restore button in itunes when the phone is in recovery mode and select the 4.1 iOs and it says Could not be restored because the firmware version is incompatible.

Any help would be great.

Since its the old bootrom is should restore to older firmware without problems. Are you sure you downloaded the 3GS firmware and not the 3G or 4G version...
