Can't get music through earphones....

I can get it from the external speakers, but plug into the 3.5mm jack with both iphone/ipod earphones and other brands and.... the external speaker continues, but nothing out of the earphones. Is this a firmware issue - is there a reset or re-install of some software required?

i have a similar problem but only the right side of the what ever its plugged into works i did some research and found that some people said that dust gets stuck inside the hole so if you happen to have a can of compressed air blow it in there to clear it out. i don't have any cans though D: so i cant try it. tell me if it works though cuz this has been really pissing me off lol
