cant connect to my wifi,,,newbie here

just purchased a used iphone 4 unlocked...has version 4.3.3(8j2)
my itouch connects to my wifi
the iphone 4 sees my name on wifi and i enter password and than says unable to connect
tried unplugging router/modem..no luck
i have no sim card as of now....
should i try to get the latest firmware on itunes?
or do you need a sim card to get free wifi?

Go to Settings>General>Reset> Reset Network Settings

than reset network settings
have dual sim settings
restore factory settings
gsensor setting
misc setting
all under general
