Please can anyone explain to me in easy to understand instructions how to get an audible notification on facebook messenger

In the app, tap Settings at the bottom right.
Make sure Notifications is On. If it isn't, tap it to turn it on. The app will ask you to turn on Notifications, you have to agree.

Also, turn on In-App Sounds:
