AT & T Locked phone from ebay

I bought an Iphone 4s locked cell phone last week from ebay seller. He told me that he needs to connect to his itunes in order to activate the phone. Should I let him do that ? If I let him, will I be able to use AT&T prepaid card in that iphone 4s?

I don't know how AT&T prepaid works but if the device is already on att I don't see a issue with putting the sim in. No need for him to activate it. Why not give AT&T a call

My concern is that after he activated it, is that phone will be locked to his number ?
