According to a new report from CNBC today, Bank of America Merrill Lynch is saying that Apple is working with its Asian partners to develop a foldable iPhone.
“We expect the iPhones this fall to be largely unchanged for the OLED versions although size changes have proved to be a catalyst in the past,” said analyst Wamsi Mohan in a note to clients today. “Our checks also suggest that Apple is working with suppliers on a foldable phone (that potentially could double up as a tablet) for launch in 2020.”
Wamsi has apparently met with several Apple suppliers in Asia.
There have been rumours for several years about Apple developing a folding iPhone, including a report from a Korean media source last October that said that LG and Apple were working together on such a project. This is the first such report that we’ve seen for some time on the matter from a very credible source, however.
