Apple Expecting 100 Million Subscribers for New Music Streaming Service

Apple’s WWDC is now underway in California, meaning that any minute now Apple will be announcing its new music streaming service during the keynote address.

According to an Associated Press story, via MacRumors, Apple has very ambitious plans for the new service, and is hoping to sign up 100 million subscribers, which is a huge ask!

If Apple were to succeed in this, it would then boast a bigger subscriber base than Spotify, Pandora, Deezer and others, which together had 41 million paid US subscribers last year.

Apple Music is basically a rebranded and revamped version of Beats Music, which was acquired by Apple for $3 billion last year, along with Beats Electronics headphones and speakers.

The service will cost $10 per month, with a three-month free trial period, with a focus on exclusive content and playlists created by celebrities, DJs, and members of the public.

Apple is expected to fully capitalise on its 800 million iTunes account-holders to help make the service a success.
