At some point last year, Apple released an interesting iPhone app that included maps designed by some other company rather than Google. Now, new information seems to indicate that the app released was just a prelude to Apple’s plans of cutting out Google Maps definitively from their new generation iOS version.

The bad blood between the two companies has been well documented. Even if Apple and Google started out as eager partners, their relationship soon deteriorated. Steve Jobs wasn’t happy at all when Google released its own operating system back in 2008, which he considered to be a rip off of Apple’s iOS. When Android started getting more and more popular, Apple and Google became less and less cordial.

Therefore the new set of rumors that comes to us via 9to5Mac make a lot of sense. According to inside sources, Apple is planning to axe Google Maps in favor of its own mapping software that is said to sport some pretty amazing 3D technology and is expected to be “a much cleaner, faster, and more reliable experience.”

The 3D mapping technology is expected to be streaming out of the C3 acquisition which was set up in October. The software will enable the visualization of realistic structure models that will translate into the person having the sensation that he/she is actually looking at the location in person.

Maybe the technology will be ready in time to be incorporated into the new iOS 6, especially since Apple fanboys are breathlessly awaiting new features and goodies to be stashed up in the new iPhone.
