The Mail Online reports today that just in time for the new iPhone, Everything Everywhere (which will now be called EE in a re-branding move) has begun testing its 4G LTE network in London, Cardiff, Bristol and Birmingham in the UK. According to the news story, the network, which is five times faster than 3G, could be available to T-Mobile and Orange customers in the UK, “within weeks.” London’s Mayor, Boris Johnson, spoke of EE’s promise to give London “the greatest 4G network in the world.” According to EE’s website, its 4G LTE service will only be available on contract phones and not on a pay-as-you-go basis. Although yet to confirm pricing and launch date, The Mail Online says that EE has said that it will be available before Christmas in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Derby, Glasgow, Hull, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield and Southampton. EE says its superfast network will cover 98% of the UK by 2014.
