Why is one of my contacts black? Most are blue or green

Just wondering if anybody knows why certain contacts would be Blue while the other ones are green and some are black what is the color code difference?

Welcome to iPhoneForums!

Green contacts will receive messages as SMS text messages, and are usually people with non-Apple devices. Messages to blue contacts will be sent by iMessage, which means they also have an Apple device.
Contacts with black colour haven't been contacted by you via Messages.

Not really.. Because I know people that have android devices and some are green and some are grey.

Start a conversation with one of those contacts in grey, and they'll turn green or blue, depending on their devices. If there's no message thread on your iPhone (In Messages) with one of them, they are grey.

Btw.: blue can also be people you contacted via email.

Let me understand this, your using imessage on your phone app or facebooks messenger app ? I was always wondering myself why or what the colors represent. I use a 5s iPhone and a iPad.

Everyone should have at least one black contact.

It's the politically correct thing to do.
