MacRumors reports today that according to RBC Capital Markets analyst Amit Daryanani, this year’s version of the iPhone X is set to have a $100 price cut, retailing for a starting price of $899, with the new 6.5-inch iPhone X costing from $999.

The reason for the price cut, says Daryanani, is because the iPhone X has had “limited success” when priced at $999 and upwards, and it’s thought that lowering the price by $100 could help to get sales of the 5.8-inch iPhone moving again.

Recent rumours and reports from Apple’s supply chain have suggested that iPhone X sales have slowed considerably in the past few months. However, official figures on this won’t be revealed until late April or early May, when Apple issues its latest earnings report.

While there’s no way of knowing yet how accurate Daryanani’s report is, it would certainly be a sensible move for Apple to reduce the price of the new iPhone X by such a big amount, as the high price of the current model was likely a factor in sales being slower than expected.
